News: The Food and Drink Events you can’t miss this Summer

If you are looking for culinary and cultural events this summer, why not check out our top picks from around the country?

Sheffield Food Festival, 27 – 29 May

This festival gathers together artisan food and drink, and the people who make and sell it. The highlight will be the Theatre kitchen, where participating professional chefs will show how to make their signature dishes, and compete in a Ready Steady Cook-style challenge each evening.

Great British Beer Festival, London,  8-12 August

Organised by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), the festival promises to bring the pub experience to the streets of Kensington. Pub quizzes, live performances and an array of snacks will be on offer, alongside a host of beverages from breweries big and small. You can even get lessons in beer-testing, so that you too can become a true aficionado.

Mouth of the Tyne Festival, Tynemouth, 6-8 July

Only a short Metro journey from Newcastle, the Mouth of the Tyne Festival offers musical performances by Elbow, Tom Odell and Laura Marling. Yoga, a hula disco and a mini circus will also be part of the weekend’s events. Located on the coast of the North Sea, there will be plenty of fresh fish dishes available from street vendors and local restaurants.

Cardiff Food Safari, every Friday until 24 November

Running every Friday for almost seven months, Cardiff Food Safari will take visitors on a four-hour guided tour of Cardiff Bay’s attractions. Spend the day sampling bara brith, Welsh cakes, cheese and more as you travel the capital, learning about its landmarks and history. Alternatively, take the five-hour tour and experience three courses across three different city restaurants.

Glasgow Mela, 2 July

An event with incredible variety, the Mela not only celebrates Glasgow’s edible culture, but its music too. Among the headline acts are the bagpipe rockers the Red Hot Chili Pipers and bhangra artist Sukshinder Shinda. Plenty to see and do, and it has free entry!
